Lips are one of the most visible features of a person. They are also very sensitive and vulnerable to damage. Additionally, when it comes to appearance, our lips often set the tone for our entire face. Full and healthy-looking lips give an overall more youthful and attractive appearance, so that many people invest in lip care routines.

What can damage your lips?

Lips can be easily damaged by environmental factors such as sun exposure, wind, and cold weather. Additionally, the use of certain products may also damage your lips. It includes lipsticks that are too drying or contain irritants like fragrances and preservatives.

How to care for your lips?

Here are a few tips to keep your lips in tip-top condition:

Moisturize

Moisturizing your lips is essential because it helps prevent dryness and chapped lips, which can be a painful and uncomfortable experience. It also makes your lips soft and smooth and improves their texture. In addition, moisturizing can help prevent signs of aging such as wrinkles.

To moisturize your lips, you can use a lip balm such as chapstick or Vaseline. You should apply the lip balm at least once a day, preferably before bed and after eating meals that are particularly drying. If you live in a particularly dry climate, you may want to apply the lip balm more often. Additionally, drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help keep your lips moist and healthy. You should also avoid licking your lips since saliva can make them drier.

Protect

The lips do not have any melanin to protect them from the dangerous effects of UV rays, which can lead to premature aging, dark spots, and even skin cancer. Using a lip balm with SPF can help protect your lips from the sun’s damaging rays. To prevent this from happening, remember to apply a lip balm with an SPF before heading outside.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your lips is essential when wearing SPF to ensure that the sun protection product can be absorbed into the skin and provide full coverage. When you exfoliate, you remove any dead skin cells that could prevent the SPF from being fully effective. Additionally, exfoliation will help keep your lips hydrated and smooth. It will ensure that your lips stay healthy and moisturized.

Using a lip scrub is the best way to exfoliate away any SPF residue from your lips. You can make an all-natural lip scrub at home with ingredients like sugar, honey, and olive oil mixed. Simply massage the mixture onto your lips in small circular motions for about 30 seconds before rinsing it off with water. To make sure you don’t irritate your lips, avoid using too much pressure and be gentle. Alternatively, you can purchase a lip scrub from the store which is specifically designed to remove SPF build-up. Make sure to follow up with a moisturizing lip balm or petroleum jelly afterward to keep your lips hydrated and healthy.

How I became a professional photographer

I never intended to be a professional photographer. I always enjoyed the art, and saw that I had a knack for it while studying abroad in France for a semester. I fell in love with taking photos with my first digital point and shoot camera. One day I had the opportunity to borrow a DSLR and I was hooked. I saved up for about a year and finally picked up my first DSLR camera. I mostly took photos of flowers and my kids – pretty typical for new DSLR owners.
